Modern societies create a growing stress on natural resources of the shallow and medium deep subsurface due to concurrent usage, environmental and engineering factors, as well as contamination, natural and man made hazards. To establish strategies for a sustainable management of the natural wealth, urban and regional planers, including decision and policy makers, require detailed, easy to understand, already interpreted, geo-scientific three dimensional models of the affected subsurface. |

The University based working group GEOSUM3D has been formed to develop integrated scientific 3D modelling concepts and applied best practice guidelines. Members come from different research institutes of geo scientific disciplines: Quaternary Geology, Applied Geophysics, Applied Geomorphology and Earthquake Geology, working on different aspects of the surface and shallow subsurface, from archaeology and historical geography, stratigraphy, sedimentary geology, hydro and engineering geology to geophysics.
